Kitulgala White-Water Rafting

Kitulgala feels built around the river. The Kelani Ganga cuts through thick tropical forest here, slipping between large boulders before breaking into a succession of rapids.

The standard rafting run mixes lively sections such as Virgin’s Breast, Head Chopper, Killer Fall, Rib Cage and Slot and Drop with calmer water where the rainforest closes in around the river. The rapids are generally approachable for first-timers while still offering enough action to make the short descent feel adventurous.

What makes Kitulgala memorable is the setting as much as the rafting itself: warm water, dense jungle, rocky riverbanks and forested hills on almost every side. It is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to add a few hours of adventure to a journey through the island’s hill country.
